The Work of the Devil

I don’t usually use phrases like “the work of the devil” and I rarely utter the word “evil” but there is no other way to describe the suicide attack on a mosque in Pakistan during Eid that killed at least 50 people. It was the work of the devil and it was most certainly evil.

Once again, we as Muslims are confronted with the horror of suicide attacks. I have written several pieces on the madness that possessed Muslim clerics when they first gave their blessing to suicide bombings. That was evil too.

They justified it at the time as a “legitimate” weapon against Israelis. But here’s the thing – and it doesn’t take a genius to tell you – suicide bombings don’t come with an off switch. Once they were justified against Israelis, an abominable pandora’s box was opened that looks like it will never be closed again. What was used to kill Israelis a few years ago is now being used to kill or try to kill anyone the attacker has a grudge against.

Suicide bombings – against Israeli, against Egyptians, against Pakistanis, against anyone – are wrong. They are evil. They are the work of the devil.

So what now from our clerics who gave their blessings to a nihilism that equates Islam and being a Muslim with death and destruction?

What more will it take for them to unanimously condemn suicide attacks for the evil that they are?

50 Muslims blown to pieces in a mosque during Eid al-Adha, the most important religious festival in the Muslim calendar.

That is the work of the devil. That is evil.

There is no doubt about that whatsoever.

I hardly know how to respond. Evil. Work of the devil. How could this be otherwise?

The only thing that this sort of an attack accomplishes is to polarize Western opinion against Islam. Is this the intent of those who promote such attacks? I would postulate that there is ample evidence to support the contention that it is.

The next question is why? Why do some Muslim clerics seem to want yet another crusade? Mona supplied the answer; evil, work of the devil.

The devil is a master of deception. His greatest lie is the one in which he convinced many that he doesn’t exist. He exists alright, he exists and deceives us into killing each other over things that are just as silly as playground disputes over who should have the base-ball diamond first.

Why would the devil want that? Evil. Murderer. Since the beginning. Cain and Abel. Devil’s work.

Actually Mona, the violent Pakistanis are mostly the result of being trained to kill the Russians in Afghanistan 25 years ago.

They still carry the same mentality and same tactics .. once you train them .. you can not un-train them.

Mona,

Violent revolutions consume themselves. When Robespierre began guillotining enemies of the state, it was Robespierre and his revolutionaries who ended up under the blade. When Muslims began bombing Israelis in their insane jihad against all things non-Muslim, it was inevitable that Muslims would wind up as victims of their own suicide bombs.

Frank is right in that such atrocities confirm Western opinion of Islam as a dark and bloody religion. He’s in error when he claims that such atrocities are intended to influence Western opinion. The bombers set their sights far lower than that. They think that killing their rival Muslims will work. It reminds me of a killer in Capone’s mob who thought he could become President of the US by killing every one who opposed him. He didn’t last long.

As long as Islam endorses a never-ending jihad against the non-Muslim world, that insane belligerence will rebound against the Muslim world with terrible effect, just like Bhutto’s assassination. When the Muslim world cheers on Muslim terrorists abroad in the dar al harb, they are implicitly supporting Muslim terrorists in the dar al salaam. You can not separate the two. Muslims are doomed to be victims of the murderous intolerance they inflict on the Other.
