Mabrouk! Tears for Egypt

Here’s how I reacted to news that Hosni Mubarak had stepped down as president of Egypt after an 18-day uprising on a Brian Lehrer Show special on revolutions. Lot of hard work to do now but well worth celebrating!

From an Israeli who fully supported the Egyptian revolt, who is ashamed of Israel’s past alliance with the Shah and SAVAK and who despises Ahmadinajad and the mullahs, I wish the Iranian demonstrators for democracy everthing they deserve. Ho Mona, I just heard you for the first time on “The Spirit of Things” in Australia…. you are one smart woman and i wish you all power and success in everything you are trying to achieve. And I wish all Arabs who have been subjected to dictatorial dictatorships all power and success in their path to self-determination. When I see people achieving liberation I cry tears of joy!

RE: lalamono @monaeltahawy can u recommend a gd Egyptian womens/hum rts/democ org 2 donate 2? My daughter’s 3rd bday party’s going to be a fundraiser : )

I think that adult parties should be fundraisers rather than kids parties. Kids deserve a special day for them where they get things. Birthdays are only one day a year – it is not like they are getting toys and books every week or every month!

If a kid’s party will be the excuse, a good charity would be toys and books for kids who don’t have any – that one buys something half as expensive as one would otherwise and give an identical present to a poor or orphaned child or a child with a martyred parent. That way you can still do good and the child will still be a child.
